Sir Angus Tait, or as I called him, Mr Tait, died today.
I've known Mr Tait since December 1988. Back then I used to work in the Christchurch factory at Tait Electronics. Every Friday Angus would come out to the factory and do the rounds, talking to all the workers.
Back then he knew everyone by name, but there was only 300 employees.
As time grew on, so did the size of the company, and Mr Tait no longer came out for his Friday afternoon stroll. When I spoke to him about this much later, he said that it was because he couldn't remember everyone's name. I'm not surprised! By that stage Tait had grown to over 1000 employees globally - It would hard enough for anyone to remember that many people!
So when I think over Mr Tait, the one thing that I'll remember was our Friday afternoon chinwag.
